Rooting for you.
Hi, I’m Helga! I created One More Garden to help gardeners grow productive kitchen gardens with the soil they already have – even if it’s heavy clay like mine here in the Dutch polder.
On this site, you’ll find practical gardening advice, seasonal inspiration, lessons from my allotment, and natural methods that actually work in real gardens. Drawing from my years at the Dutch edition of Gardeners’ World magazine and plenty of hands-on experience, I’m here to help you grow with more confidence and less frustration.
Happy gardening!

Find inspiration
Before you dig in, first get excited about what you’re going to grow! Get your imagination rolling to see what’s possible in your garden.
Get started
There’s no such thing as “bad soil“. Okay, maybe there is, but don’t let that stop you! Here’s some gardening basics to set yourself up for less frustration and a thriving garden.
Choose your garden
Whether you love growing cut flowers, edible plants, ornamentals or house plants, I’ve got you covered (with plenty of space for wildlife, too).
Pick your plants
I’ve narrowed down the best varieties for clay soil – from nom nom veggies to reliable flowers – that are actually worth the effort. Complete with all the how-to details you need to get growing.
